Rescue practice

Rescue

A scenario where a dock worker is found unconscious on the cabin roof of one of our cranes. If a back or neck injury is suspected, SOS is alerted.

The exercise was carried out together with Piteå Harbor AB and the Rescue Service in Piteå and is an important part of ShoreLink's safety work. A rescue exercise serves as a check that the competence for emergency situations is met at the same time as the emergency equipment is tested and reviewed. This type of exercise takes place regularly in the port and often together with the police and rescue services. In January earlier this year, an exercise was staged on a traffic accident at a railway crossing. In the past, a rescue exercise with an injured person found in a cargo hold has been carried out, as well as several different fire drills

Our latest exercise was unique and had never been done before. In this case, it involved complicated lifesaving at high altitude, with equipment from the rescue service. Ola Isaksson, site manager at ShoreLink Terminal in Piteå, says: A good variety of rescue exercises is necessary in our business and very instructive. This time we wanted to test perhaps the most complex, but entirely possible practice situation".

When the exercise is finished, all parties gather for evaluation. Security Manager Clas-Robert Johansson at Piteå Hamn AB concludes, "These opportunities are perfect for all parties involved. Here we get the chance to develop and improve the practical cooperation and insight between each other, while any shortcomings can be easily identified.
