TransAtlantic is adding the Port of Piteå to their existing container line between northern Finland and Belgium (TransBothnia Container Line). "Piteå will be an excellent alternative for export and import cargo to northern Sweden and an important step in strengthening our offering of RoRo and container transport in the Baltic Sea region" - says Nikolas Rowland, Commercial Manager Sweden. With this establishment, the Port of Piteå strengthens its role as an important logistics hub in northern Scandinavia.
Transatlantic is collaborating with Piteå Hamn AB and ShoreLink AB, which will handle all handling of goods and containers in Piteå Hamn. ShoreLink CEO Susanne Jangdal expresses her joy over the newly launched line – "This is a milestone in the history of Piteå Hamn and ShoreLink and we look forward to providing good service to customers who discover the advantages of transporting containerized goods via Piteå Hamn".
TransAtlantic will initially call at Piteå every other week. The plan is to expand the service to weekly service and to regularly call at another major transshipment port after summer 2014. The first departure from Piteå is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2014. The vessels on the route are capable of handling all types of unit-based cargo, including project cargo.
