Lift Ssab 80 Ton1

Parts for SSAB's reconstruction were unloaded during the end of May and beginning of June. The heaviest lift was a converter and weighed 80 tons. The lift was carried out with two cranes lifting together and is the heaviest that can be lifted in Victoria Harbour today, with the track-mounted cranes that are available.

 230 parts for an excavator

During the first weekend in June, 230 parts were unloaded to be transported to the mine in Aitik for assembly and commissioning.

When so many parts, and heavy parts in particular, are to be unloaded, it is important to work quickly to avoid delays in the transport chain and to work safely at the same time. The ship arrived on Friday and the first layer in the hold was unloaded on the same day. This meant that the ship's crew could use Saturday to remove lashing equipment and open the intermediate hatches. On Sunday, unloading therefore started very quickly and most of the goods could be unloaded on the same day. Only the heaviest lifts, which were to be lifted directly to trailers, were carried out on Monday.

At the beginning of the week, all that remained was to move the cargo from the quay to trailers for onward transport to Aitik, and the final transport is planned to take place before midsummer. The customer DHL said they were very satisfied with the work as the staff worked so quickly despite persistent rain.
