Sweden's northernmost container line turns 1 year old - and how it has grown!

On June 14, 2014, a year ago, the first loading was carried out on the container line that regularly calls at Haraholmen's logistics center. At that time, 60 TEUs* were loaded and since then the number has increased at a rapid pace. Today, a year later, we handle just over 1000 TEUs per month and approximately 16000 TEUs in a year. After just three months, the weekly calls started instead of the previous biweekly ones.

- Development has exceeded expectations. To cope with the increased activity, we permanently hired four employees in the fall of 2014 and now in the spring we have invested in a new container terminal system, says Susanne Jangdal, CEO of ShoreLink AB.

ShoreLink has also invested in a loadplate that efficiently stuffs containers for our customers. A large part of the containers are loaded with liner and sawn timber, but we are also seeing an increase in other types of cargo. The cargo being shipped is mainly an increase in goods via the Haraholmen logistics center and has not been transferred from other types of vessels.

- The initiative benefits the entire regional business community and its exporting companies, says Ulrika Nilsson, CEO of Piteå Port. It is now easier and more cost-effective to reach destinations all over the world and, above all, to send smaller quantities by sea.
