As we begin to summarize the year that is almost over, the feeling is that activity has been very high and that development is moving forward at full speed. The feeling can also be described in pure numbers. Look at the development!
Up until the end of October this year, we have handled approximately 340 tonnes of other bulk cargo. This is an increase of almost 000 tonnes compared to the same period the year before, or if you prefer, a 100% increase. The checklist of work carried out among project cargo/other bulk cargo includes, among other things:
- Four large ships with wind power in Skellefteå which involved 360 special lifts. (Read more here)
- A 220 ton transformer in Kalix. (Read more here)
- Several project cargoes that have been unloaded in Victoria Harbour as a result of the stoppages at SSAB and machinery for Boliden's mine in Aitik. Among them is an excavator in 230 parts for the mine. (Read more here)
Increased activity in Piteå
Passenger cars also belong to the category of other bulk goods. Every year, approximately 10,000 cars arrive at Haraholmen's logistics center via train and rail, which are then loaded onto trucks by ShoreLink. When newly produced cars began to be shipped via ro-ro ships in the spring of 2013, the goal was to handle 3000 cars per year. Now in 2015, we are close to 10,000 cars per year. In Piteå, the new container line has also grown. It has gone from 1500 TEUs to 17500 TEUs in just a year and a half. Or if you prefer to count the number of containers, it has increased from 1000 to 10,000 on an annual basis. (Read more here ).
ShoreLink is growing
All this increased activity has meant that we have hired more people. Since autumn 2014, we have hired 15 employees and in April 2016 we will have even more when the concession agreement in Luleå comes into force and 15 employees transfer from Luleå Hamn AB to ShoreLink.
With this in mind, we look forward to the coming years with excitement. We gather experience and strength from all businesses and aim to develop even more.
