Distressed was rescued in Kalix

On Monday, May 9, a rescue exercise was carried out at Kalix Port, Billerud's massakaj. One of the exercise scenarios was to rescue a person in distress from a ship with a lifeboat connected to a ShoreLink folding jib crane and stretcher. Participants from Kalix Port, Billerud Korsnäs, ShoreLink and the Rescue Service were involved.

"It is important that we practice regularly so that we see that all the details work," says exercise leader Ola Isaksson, ShoreLink. In our work environment there are great risks of serious injuries and the more we practice, the better prepared we are for all possible scenarios.

The primary purpose of the exercise was to test ShoreLink's emergency plan and try to rescue a casualty using a folding jib crane and stretcher. It went very well and it was found that the ambulance stretcher fit into the passenger basket that was connected to the crane, which was very important.

After the exercise, the participants discussed the exercise and concluded that only a few minor adjustments to the plan needed to be made.
