The port of Piteå is largely a port for paper and sawn timber. But for just over a week now, steel coils have been temporarily stored here for Gestamp Hardtech. The previous storage facility no longer had the capacity to store steel coils and Gestamp Hardtech needed a new intermediate storage facility. The port of Piteå had the capacity.
- It's always fun to have new challenges, says Lars Johansson, site manager at ShoreLink Terminal Piteå. Now it's our hope that we will continue with this for a long period and also expand the business.
Currently, the steel strips arrive by rail and are transported by truck to Luleå. In order to be able to easily load the coils onto trucks, we have designed a new lifting device for our trucks. When they are unloaded from the railway, a so-called coil device is used, but when they are to be loaded onto a truck, the coils must be placed on the second link.
