There are risky aspects to our work and we absolutely want to avoid accidents and incidents, says Ola Isaksson, acting site manager for ShoreLink Terminal in SkellefteåThat's why we conduct rescue drills regularly to be prepared for different scenarios.

This time the scenario was that a crane operator had become distressed in the operator's cabin, at a height of 18 meters. The crane operator had no way of getting down from the crane cabin himself. ShoreLink's supervisor calls SOS and the emergency services are quickly on site. In consultation with the supervisor, they make the decision to bring the distressed crane operator down on a stretcher. Everything goes according to plan and the crane operator was rescued.
"We had to make some minor adjustments to our routines, as some external circumstances had changed since the last time," says Ola. "But that's what exercises are for."
The exercise was carried out in collaboration with Skellefteå port and the fire service.
