Lindbäcks ships house modules

Already in connection with the selection of the location for Lindbäck's new production facility, the logistics of volumes were an important part of the decision-making basis. The choice fell on Haraholmen in Piteå, where the proximity to Piteå Port and the possibility of boat transport weighed heavily. Production has now been running for eight months and this week Lindbäck's shipped the first batch of volumes by boat.

– We have loaded and sent 85 volumes down to Lund. Boat transport is an excellent complement to road transport and that is why we are now conducting a first test, says Lars Wallgren, Logistics Manager.

Lindbäcks has had close collaboration with ShoreLink, Piteå Port & Hub and Copenhagen Malmö Port. The ambition to ship volumes has existed for a long time, but it was only now that it felt economically and environmentally sustainable.

   – Using shipping for domestic transport is a must to relieve both road and rail in Sweden, which has one of Europe's longest coastlines. We are pleased that Lindbäcks chose Haraholmen, Piteå, for their new factory so that it is easy to use shipping for their goods. This project is a good step for the future to increase shipping from the region, says Ulrika Nilsson, CEO of Piteå Port & Hub.

   – This is a test so far, but there are several advantages to making transport by boat work. First, it is good to reduce the load on the roads, and if we use ships that return south loaded instead of empty, we can also count it in environmental and economic benefits, says Lars Wallgren.

Ann-Charlotte Halldén-Åkeson, Key Account Manager at Copenhagen Malmö Port AB, is also positive about the new collaboration with Lindbäcks.

    - For us, it is really exciting to be part of this collaboration and to be able to support this type of goods flow. Sending goods from north to south via sea is both sustainable and efficient. Malmö is strategically well located both for transport further into Europe but also as a regional hub with short local transport. In this particular case, the goods are to be sent to Lund.

Susanne Jangdal, CEO of ShoreLink, which is the operator in the port of Piteå, is very satisfied with the cooperation between all parties and sees this as a good test.

   – The new type of cargo places high demands on good logistics and efficient handling in the port of Piteå, as we simultaneously have large projects such as wind power and our regular scheduled traffic. Something I am convinced that we can handle with the experienced and competent staff we have, says Susanne Jangdal, CEO of ShoreLink.

The transport is the first of two loadings. The first transport with 85 volumes and the second with 90. The volumes will be used to build Sagoeken, a project with 175 apartments in Lund that Lindbäcks is building for the AF Bostäder Foundation.
