In a unique collaboration with DataPolarna, ShoreLink is now digitizing the sawmills' goods flow in the ports by introducing the SawInfo system into the operation. Currently, many sawmills in Norr- and Västerbotten use the system to efficiently store their timber packages. By installing the same system at ShoreLink, the customer will be given the opportunity to see the path of the goods all the way from their own warehouse, via the intermediate transport and on to the port for storage there, until the goods are loaded aboard ships.
-By switching to the same system that many customers already have, we want to improve customer benefit through increased traceability of the goods and at the same time increase our own efficiency and operational reliability, says Ola Isaksson, Sales Manager at ShoreLink.
-For us, this is a very important project as we strive to offer an unbroken digitalization chain for timber packages, from production to end customer, says Anders Marklund, CEO of DataPolarna.
First up is installation in the operations in Skelleftehamn, where ShoreLink has been collaborating with the Port of Skellefteå.
"It is an important step for the port's development and will provide our mutual customers with added value, as it will be easier to keep track of the inventory," says Lars Widelund, Port Manager at Port of SkellefteåIt's great that the business in Skellefteå is early and it will give us a competitive advantage compared to other players.
In the future, the plan is to also introduce this into ShoreLink's operations in Piteå. Kenneth Wallin, former CEO of Martinsons Trä in Bygdsiljum and who now works with business development within ShoreLink, has previous experience with SawInfo.
-As a customer, you obviously want to have good control over your goods and this provides a unique opportunity for many sawmills to get just that. For those customers who do not have SawInfo, we see good opportunities to develop a form of bridge to the systems they currently use.
In addition to the major benefits mentioned above, Ola Isaksson also sees benefits for the external environment.
- We also expect that carbon dioxide emissions will decrease relative to the scale of the operation, as the distances traveled by the trucks in the port will become shorter and fewer, he concludes.
