Special combination of cargo in shipping from Skelleftehamn

Representatives Before Container

For some time now, the shipping company Wallenius Sol has been regularly operating the Port of Skellefteå, with deliveries to and from SkellefteåThis week, in good collaboration with them and Norra Timber, Träfraktkontoret and Hapag Lloyd, we have ensured that the return cargo became more cost-effective and also more sustainable.

- Goods arriving at Northvolt's factory establishment come on rolling RoRo trailers and in containers, it's a matter of finding a return cargo that fits well, says Ola Isaksson, sales manager at ShoreLink. If there is no return cargo for these containers, the empty ones go on to the continent and Asia. When the return is used, it becomes more cost-effective for everyone involved and more sustainable in the long run, since otherwise the return goods would have been transported in another way.

On Tuesday, the ship Jutlandia Sea arrived in Skelleftehamn, which in addition to goods in containers from Hapag Lloyd was loaded with machine parts. When the cargo was unloaded and all containers were emptied, work started on Wednesday with loading (stuffing) some containers with sawn timber from Norra Timber. These will be shipped for further export with the help of the Timber Shipping Office to Europe and Asia.

This time, the stuffing was done in a more manual way, with a wheel loader loading the timber package into the container. But the goal is to have a new loading plate in place by November that will automate the stuffing.

"In addition to a new loading plate, we are making further investments to meet the demand that is now coming," says Ola Isaksson. In addition, we have already started installing SawInfo to further digitize the sawmills' product flow.
