We received a request from Real Rail Sweden AB (Sandahls) to temporarily load and unload in Piteå, due to track repairs in Boden and Luleå, which are usually part of their regular route.
"It has been a challenge to schedule Sandahl's trains at the same time as our regular train traffic," says Amanda Uvén, logistics manager in Piteå. But it has worked very well. Above all, thanks to the excellent cooperation between all parties.
Multiple challenges
There have been several challenges. In addition to the fact that the normal train traffic must of course run without disruption, this time we would work in a new way and with completely new types of units. The two logisticians in Piteå who have worked the most with the logistics this time are Emelie Jonsson and Elise Almquist Idén.
"This flow placed increased demands on us logisticians, to really keep the logistics flow in order," says Emelie Jonsson. It has worked really well because we work so closely with both the customer and everyone within ShoreLink.
New way of working
The new way of working was that everything was done simultaneously. We loaded and unloaded at the same time, instead of unloading everything first and then loading. We also loaded directly between the truck and the train. Normally, the goods are often stored in an intermediate storage before they move on to the next destination.
"The fact that it worked so well was due to good communication between us and those who operate the machines," says Elise Almquist Idén. In addition, Sandahls has had many employees on site, who have been very helpful.
The new types of units, which we have not worked with before, were Sandahl's own.
"It was fun to try new types of units," says Maja Persson, one of several machine operators from ShoreLink. Sandahl's units were easy to handle and made the job much easier.
