With tweezers, Maja moves containers with her huge truck in Piteå harbor and on the quay in Luleå, Lars makes sure that all the machines work flawlessly. Meet two of ShoreLink's employees who are both living out their childhood dreams at work.
ShoreLink manages the day-to-day operations in the ports of Kalix, Luleå, Piteå and Skellefteå. The work includes, among other things, unloading and loading ships and storing goods. The approximately 247 employees are divided into roughly 20 professional roles, from ship agents to economists and mechanics. One of them is Maja Persson, a dock worker in Piteå, who gets to live out her childhood dream of driving a truck.
- I studied the transport program in high school to be able to drive a truck - but now I drive more awesome machines than that. One day I sit in a truck and the other I drive the container truck and load and unload containers, says Maja.
In the maintenance department in Luleå, Lars Berg works as a vehicle mechanic. He services and repairs the twenty or so machines used in loading and unloading the ships at the quay. He has solid experience in the mechanical profession and joined ShoreLink in April 2023.
- Getting to tinker with vehicles as a job has been my dream since I was 16, preferably old raggar cars. I have known about ShoreLink's operations since I was a child and last year I was recruited. It was lucky for me, and for ShoreLink, says Lars with a smile and continues:
- It's a good place. On Sunday I start looking forward to Monday, and it's not like I have a boring free time.
Both Maja and Lars highlight that ShoreLink takes good care of its staff, in everything from safety to training and grants for activities with colleagues.
- The employer is very easy to deal with, it never gets stuck. Colleagues are also very important. We have good cohesion and the shift team does a lot together outside of work, says Maja
Safety is an important issue for ShoreLink and they are constantly working to ensure that the workplace is a safe place for employees as well as for those who come from outside and load and unload ships.
- I never feel anxious when I'm at work. I know that it is a safe workplace and that I will work as usual and come home every day, says Maja.
