As part of streamlining freight flows and continuing the development of industries in the northern region, X-Press feeders has once again started regular scheduled services for containerized freight to the Port of Piteå. In Skellefteå The Wallenius Sol has been operating in the port for the same purpose for some time now.
- "We have been in discussions with shipping companies for a long time as we have seen the opportunity to get return cargo for the ships that come here with general cargo," says Ola Isaksson, Sales Manager ShoreLink. It is a win-win for all parties involved.
The new line runs via Hamburg and Wilhelmshaven. The return goods from Sweden come mainly from the sawmills in the region and consist of sawn timber transported in containers.
The ports of Skellefteå and Piteå are well placed within easy reach of the goods going to the growing industries. A large flow of sawn timber products has already been in the ports, but not in containers. The new lines will increase the possibility for the sawmills to send their goods.
