The port of Haraholmen strengthens its competitiveness when Wallenius SOL now includes Port of Piteå in its line network in the Gulf of Bothnia. The new line, which starts this winter and is part of the shipping company's expanded LoLo (Lift-on/Lift-off) service, includes calls in Tornio, Finland, Piteå, Sweden and Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
ShoreLink, which is responsible for all freight handling, has an important role in the expansion.

To strengthen shipping connections in the Gulf of Bothnia, Wallenius SOL is now investing in an expanded line.
The first call in Piteå was made by the container ship Peyton Lynn C Friday, January 24th.
The route calls at Haraholmen every other week and offers an efficient flow of goods between mainly the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden.
– This strengthens Port of Piteå's role as an attractive port for liner traffic and smooth container handling for the region's business community, says Ulrika Nilsson, CEO, Piteå Hamn AB.

Importance for the region

For Piteå, this not only means new business opportunities but also strengthened cooperation between different actors. The port's close collaboration with the operator ShoreLink, which is responsible for cargo handling, is crucial to making this expansion possible.

– Our customers are increasingly demanding tailored solutions, and with the new container line we are working to meet their needs. It is gratifying that the port of Piteå is now included in the route and that we as an operator can be responsible for loading and unloading, says Peter Mörtlund, CEO, ShoreLink.

A sustainable solution for northern Sweden

The investment in the Port of Piteå and other logistics nodes along the Norrland coast marks an important step in meeting the need for cost-effective and reliable transport solutions. The expanded route also highlights the growing importance of the ports in northern Sweden as central logistics hubs for both national and international freight flows.
